Startup India Registration Eligibility Criterias

Not all newly established businesses are considered Startups. To be considered a Startup in India, businesses need to be recognized by the DPIIT and fulfil certain prescribed eligibility criterias. These criterias are related to the business structure, age of startup, business activities and turnover. Here’s a detailed list of Startup India eligibility criteria for recognition.

Private Limited Company, OPC, Partnership Firm & LLP as business structures:

All commercial establishments in Hyderabad, including all Private Limited Companies, must obtain the Shops and Establishment Registration under the State’s Shops and Establishment Act. The purpose of acquiring this registration is to enable the Government, specifically the State’s Labour Department to ensure that the working conditions and welfare of the employees in the registered establishments are all up to the mark.

Incorporation not more than 10 years ago from the date of application:

For startup Registration in India, your business must not be older than 10 years from the date of incorporation.

Primary objective is financial growth, employment generation & wealth creation:

The primary objective of your business must be employment generation and wealth creation. This indicates that Non-profit entities cannot apply for Startup India Recognition.

Structure is not a result of splitting or reconstruction of an existing business:

The business must be a new and original entity and not formed by restructuring existing business entities. Business formed by demergers, mergers, and established subsidiaries cannot apply for Startup India Recognition.

Turnover has not exceeded Rs.100 crores in any financial year:

Business turnover since incorporation to the filing of Startup India Registration online application, must not exceed Rs.100 crores.

Business activities include dealing in innovative products, processes, or services:

Registration under the Startup India Scheme is only granted to startups having innovative products or services. A detailed product / service description must be provided in this context.

Incorporate your Startup
